Floods and what to do about them

We all feel greatly for those affected by this winter's floods and they are constantly in our prayers.

Regrettably, the media have mostly concentrated on the spat between a government minister and the environment agency and amplifying the locals' calls for more dredging.

If government ministers have read the reports which arrive on their desks, they will know that the scientists and the environment agency already have the knowledge that we need but government cuts and ministerial actions are actually impeding a response.
